My parents have been hounding me to get a job. However, every single application I've been able to get asks for my Social Security Number. I tried to bring one back without it on there and they wouldn't take it.
Anyway, I've asked my parents if I could have the card to copy the number onto...
You will never get a job without these things, so tell your parents no one will hire you without this. They are the ones who want you to work..
You cannot be paid until you have an SS number. Tell them that unless they give you the number so you can complete an application, they will have to go with you to every job you apply for and wait there while you fill it out. That alone, having to have your parents go with you just for that one thing, might make an employer think twice about hiring you.
by law, you can't
They will need the card if you get hired...
Are you 100% certain that you have a SS#? I know friends who found out their questionable immigration status the first time when they applied for jobs in high school. This is no critique or criticism...just saying.
You cannot get a job without your social security card and a second form of ID. It's required to fill out the I-9 which every employee must fill out. I'm not sure why they don't get it. Bottom line, if they want you to get a job, they HAVE to give you the information and take you to get the ID card. You will also have to get working papers from your guidance office at school.
Use your school ID .
Inform your parents that you can't apply for jobs without your SS #.
Ask your parents to speak to the prospective employer directly- your employer needs your social security number in order to register you with the IRS as an employee. It's an important part of why you have a social security number in the first place- all of your earnings are recorded against what you can eventually collect in benefits. If your parents aren't aware of its purpose, look on SSA.gov and show them the information.
They could give the employer the SS number for you.
If you have a school ID with a photo, that should count towards your ID, or you may be able to apply for a state ID at the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
You will have to talk to your parents about this because no credible business will hire you without a Social Security Number and in some cases will not hire you without an ID.
You can maybe try asking them to fill it out with you present that way they know that the information will stay between them and the company.
This almost sound like a story, not a real question. But now, what is your problem, you can get your SS number easily from the SS office and have you tried to get an ID yourself. Parents do not have to do every thing for you.
At 15 there are very few if any stores etc that will hire you. The jobs you should be looking for now are babysitting and lawn mowing.
IRS.gov will find you a form I-9 which list all the forms you have to choose from like passports, birth certificate, green card. Most of us use SS card and drivers license both others are acceptable.
You don't need it on an application. After "THEY HIRE YOU" THEN THEY NEED IT if you want to get paid...so AFTER YOU GET HIRED then you supply it. Even at WalMart. They know the rules and see you know them too. No store MUST HAVE photo idea. Those that want that must take the pictures themselves. It is not your cost. Those would be door to door sales(lousy jobs) who basically scam people.
At 15 no one really wants to hire you because you cannot drive a car...so immature. Lawn cutting , weed pulling, minor moving of junk out of a garage, etc.
You might be a kidnapped victim. Check on that. I knew my number as a teenager. The school told me!! And so did my parents.
Or your parents are stupid.
Just start your own business. Go out smart there asses!!
I work in HR and I have a hard time believing that "every application" you fill out online requires you to input your social security number. I have never come across this in my life.
Perhaps you don't have a Social Security number.
Apparently your parents want you to get an under the table job paying cash. Maybe they have hidden identities themselves and aren't who they are pretending to be.
Yes. It's a legal requirement that an employee has a SS card the employer can SEE and is able to prove that they are the rightful owner of that number. Has to be. Unless you get a job under the table paying cash. It's printed right on the card that it's not to be carried around all the time... but it is required to get a job that pays taxes.
They are actually going to need the card if they hire you too. It's not optional. They have to fill out an I-9 form and withhold taxes.
They can work around the ID if they want, but they will need a birth certificate.
