As the rectangle is formed by placing the two squares side by side, the lenghth of the rectangle becomes twice the lenghth of the arm of the square. The width is equal to the lenghth of the arm of the square.

Arm of the square = 28/4 = 7 cm.

Lenght of rectangle = 2 x 7 = 14 cm.

Therefore, the perimeter of the rectangle = 2 x 14 + 2 x 7 = 42 cms. (Ans.)

Two squares have a total perimeter of 28 + 28 = 56 cm.

A square has 4 equal sides, so divide 28 by 4:

28/4 = 7cm per side.

If you put two squares side by side, you can subtract the two sides that touch (7+7 = 14)
