Without the battle in the eastern front with the USSR, WW2 would have been longer, giving the Nazis more time to develop the atomic bomb.

yeah, 'cause it was just the ussr and usa, both late and unshalling members of the allies, that won the second world war...

the ussr liked to claim that the war they fought was not ww2, they preferred awesome patriotic war, denying the assistance of the other allies...

yeah probably they thought so

You obviously don't know history as well as you think. You forget that Russia had no alternative but to defend their homeland when the Nazis invaded them; it's not really like they had a choice in the matter. Yes, America WOULD have won ANYWAY but with Russia depleting some of the Nazi resources and manpower, it was somewhat easier for America to whoop their butts. Did Russia help America with Japan? We whooped them all on our own... well, except for a little help from "Little Boy" and "Fat Man."

Does Russia really think they couldve won without the help of America and the rest of the allies? Remember battle of the bulge, and thats only one example.

Yeah, by the time you run "Americans" and "think" together you are at an impasse, maybe an oxymoron. Nothing has a bigger Egoe. (Spelling based on the Quayle "Potatoe" Principle.)

The red flag over the Reichstag....

Athena 03/23/2017.

Yep.

Not really a problem as Stalin held back 80% of his forces before Pearl harbor.

Remember also that the USA did not join WW2 until about 5 months after Russia had been forced to join by Hitler's invasion of Russia. Prior to that, Britain and its empire had kept the war effort going, and had been doing so for over 2 years.

Yes. If you don't like it, mind your own country.

Russia did not have much of a choice about fighting the Germans once Hitler invaded them!

As for would the allies of won with out Russia in time to prevent the Germans from making the atomic bomb and using it- I think so!

The reason I suggest this is that Patton's army had it's fuel resources taken from him in late 1944 to keep him from getting into Germany before winter. That was done because Churchill and Roosevelt agreed to let the Russians take Berlin.

Many are aware of the Russian war effort on land and even the battles of the major sea lanes between the America's and England. But few are aware of the convoy trips that were so costly to the Navy in the North Atlantic bringing in war supplies to Russia. With out that aid- the war in Russia would have been a lot different and the German forces still would have been tied up on the Eastern front.

Yes, because it was just the USSR and USA, both late and unwilling members of the Allies, that won the Second World War.

The USSR liked to claim that the war they fought was not WW2, they preferred Great Patriotic War, denying the assistance of the other Allies.

Absolutely.

The Russians weren't really accomplishing a whole lot other than getting themselves killed.

If the USSR hadn't been involved the US probably would have used a different strategy and probably entered the war earlier. They also would have focused more on Europe and ignored Japan.

Even so, I think even if everything happened the same way, the US still would have won but it would have been a lot longer and a lot bloodier. The US had twice the population and Germany could not compete economically with the US. A German invasion of the US would not have been possible. So, at worst it would be a war of attrition with the US having every advantage. Regardless, there's no way Germany could win after Berlin gets nuked.

Oh yes - Americans think this because we don't tend to read any history books. And of course it's not really taught in schools.

We lost something around 1/2 million kids in WW 2 - which is horrible. But the Soviets lost 20 to 30 million (John Toland's figures). The Soviets bled the Germans dry - and yet the Germans were still formidable foes when we went up on Normandy. We took our own turn massacring them.

However without the Soviets, the US, Britain and Canada wouldn't even gotten ashore.

It's just that after the war was over, suddenly the Soviets were the "enemy" - Iron Curtain stuff - so NOTHING good could be said about them. Thus is the nature of cheap propaganda.

ksgentleman70 03/23/2017.

And who told you that claim?? Could the US have beaten the Axis without the USSR?....Not a complete defeat. The Atomic program we were building could/would have possibly won it for the Allied force (why do you just put up the US as the only nation fighting the Axis? Are you stupid?). But it's hard to envision that happening. I feel that there would have been a few German cities turned into radioactive ash. But I believe a peace treaty would have been the outcome, with France being liberated once again.

The Nazis had given up working on the bomb so having more time wasn't an issue, no wonder you posted this anonymously.

Who 03/23/2017.

It aint the US won WW2 with the help of the USSR

its the USSR won the war with some help from the US

Enguerarrard 03/23/2017.

This is true. I was born in 1951. Popular culture was saturated with movies about WWII, movies in which the Americans always won the war. I had to do independent study to discover the extent of the Russian effort.

Gerald 03/23/2017.

Americans don't think that is why the world is in such a mess they just make rude filthy remarks to anyone that disagrees with them the hate that is poisoning them is spreading through out the world they bought a sense of decency with money that has long since gone huge amounts of money is being extorted from smaller countries by evading taxes and massive sums hidden in hideaways and large parts of the world is starving or bombed to bits by them and you all know it's the truth they have become a pariah now for some more filthy rhetoric
