It's sounds silly but think about it.

Because consciousness is a bodily function. Just like I cannot send someone else to take a pee for me, someone else cannot be conscious for me.

I equate you inhabiting your body like owning and driving a car. When you try to inhabit another's body it equates to car jacking. Evil spirits are disembodied (no car) and seek to steal yours. (Luke 11: 14- 26)

You've identified yourself with the life form you were born into and have become attached to it. Before that, as you evolved, form was a way for a soul to center experience in order to evolve mentally and consciously. Physical forms just evolved to accommodate a higher evolved consciousness and mind, so that in order for a soul to experience running, he has to have legs, etc.

The spirits related to your mind is with you. They are your consciousness. They are thinking your body, your soul and your mind. They always deal with your mind. They care and they determine your destiny from your activities, talks and thoughts too. Spirits are separate elements. A human being is not a single spirit. A human being during his/her life time is living with many spirits which have joined one by one since birth. They are knowledge, skills, feelings, emotions, interests and everything. Even thoughts are not your own. For example, when you want to take a decision on a subject, one after another the spirits think and you just listen, choose or reject the ideas which they transmit to your mind through your brain in the form of thoughts. A human being is just a robot made of flesh, bones, tissues etc., and a toy of the spirits for their games.

maybe some day when we can communicate well enough illusions of self will dissipate

Because our cognition units have their own sensors distributed on our own bodies. We can only use words to communicate with others.

Philosophically speaking, It gives a melodious sound. I think if that someone gives you good company and plays percussion or harmonium or violin, it will become a best music performance.

The question is why this life and not some other. It is more than just mind, it is why do trees have leaves and the sky have clouds. Despite Voltaire's mockery of his ideas I stand with Leibnitz in thinking that this is the best world that could be and barring an endless series of phantasms something must be and something else not. The very specificity of reality means you must be such and such, and this is the such and such that you are.

Your conscious can only exist inside your brain. Can you think for someone? I can only think for myself. Just as you make a fool of yourself. No one does it for you. The existentialists have said that no one can take a bath for you.

Aortas Insotomia. 03/20/2017.

Your brain is where your consciousness exists. It cannot be removed, downloaded, transferred or mind melded to another person's brain.

Why would you mind be in the brain of another person?

Chris Ancor 03/20/2017.

Because our eyes, ears & other sense organs are connected to the rest of your body.

There are many theories but no real facts. To sum it up, nobody knows beyond a doubt and that's not likely to change. Therefore go a head and believe whatever makes you happy.

I give up. Why?

formeng 03/20/2017.

In my opinion, it's because consciousness somehow resides in the brain and your brain is in only one body. I don't think it's possible to know what it's really like to be another person. That's one of the most profound mysteries of humankind so far as I'm concerned. I don't expect any great progress to be made on that subject in the next 50 years.

JORGE N 03/20/2017.

Why are we conscious activities at all? What sense is there to consciousness? What is it for? I think it is more to do with my instinct to survive and the need to be conscious of reality enough to enable myself to survive.

Dont Call Me Dude 03/20/2017.

Because we aren't "in" our bodies - we ARE our bodies. "Consciousness" is the brain thinking about its own operation.

Religion, and all the other types of philosophical idealism, try to get us into a sort of self-denial with ideas like "soul" and such.

"Merely physical" = Self hatred and disgust, disguised as "philosophy."
